Imagine you are a detective solving a crime. You didn’t witness the crime personally, but forensic scientists have evidence for you to examine. These include CCTV footage, fingerprints, DNA evidence and witness statements. One clue on its own might not be enough, but many independent clues brought together give you confidence your conclusion is right.
In the same way, we weren’t around in Bible times to witness the events directly, however, we’ve been left clues and evidence. Each on their own might not be enough to convince you, but countless independent clues all point to one conclusion – the existence of God, a creator who cares about his creation. Here are just a few…
- When you look at the carefully balanced, intricate, natural world we see evidence of God’s intelligent design. In Psalm 19 v1 David records “The heavens are telling the glory of God; they are a marvellous display of his craftsmanship”.
- There are many compelling exhibits in the British museum. Items like the ‘Taylor Prism’ or the ‘Siege of Lachish’ wall relief, all prove the existence of people and places in the Bible which were previously disputed but are now evidence to the accuracy of the Bible.
- The Bible scriptures maintain a consistent narrative, despite being written by around 40 different authors over a span of 1500 years. The gospels on their own provide four independent, yet complementary testimonies about the life of Jesus, of whom the Bible tells “for God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him will not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16).
That’s just scratching the surface. These pieces of evidence because God hasn’t asked us to have a blind faith. Instead, in his love, He’s given proved His existence, so we can build a bank of evidence to give us confidence in Him and His love for us.
