Breaking of Bread Service

Every Sunday at 11:30am

A weekly memorial

Every Sunday at 11:30am, we meet to worship, pray, and read the Bible. This service helps us remember Jesus. We listen to a short Bible talk (often called an “exhortation,” which is the same as a sermon). Baptised members then share a small amount of bread and wine. This reminds us of Jesus giving his life on the cross and being raised from the dead by God.

The last supper

Why do we hold a Breaking of Bread service? Jesus did something similar on the night before his death. He shared a meal with his friends and disciples. During the meal, he broke bread and gave it to them. He also shared a cup of wine.

Jesus said this was a memorial of his death. He asked them to continue doing this “in remembrance of him” until he returns.

Remembering Jesus

The disciples around the table didn’t understand what Jesus was talking about. Within 24 hours, he was crucified, and all hope seemed lost. But on the third day, everything changed. Jesus was alive again.

Jesus later went away, but his followers were told to share his message. They encouraged Christians to remember him through the Breaking of Bread. The Bible shows this became a weekly Sunday service. This is why we still meet today.

Join us

You are very welcome to join our Breaking of Bread service. You can take part in hymns, worship songs, prayers, Bible readings, and the exhortation.

The bread and wine are shared by baptised believers, as in early Christian times. If you share the Christadelphian faith and have been baptised as an adult, you are welcome to take part fully and share the bread and wine.

If you are exploring faith, you are also very welcome. It does not matter if you were baptised as an infant or belong to another church. We would love you to visit and experience the service.

If you want to learn more, we are happy to help. We aim to support you in understanding the good news of God’s kingdom and Jesus Christ. When you are ready for baptism based on your own belief, we will warmly welcome you to fully share in everything we do, including the Breaking of Bread.
