What does the term ‘Sunday School’ mean to you? Old fashioned and outdated? Pointless and unnecessary? Straight-laced and dull? It may be that Sunday School isn’t what you thought it was.
Our local and national daily newspapers are full of reports of increased crime rates, violence, addiction and depression becoming worryingly common in the younger generation. It may surprise you that the Bible can provide the answer to these and other problems. That’s where Sunday School comes in.
Bible teachings can give children a really positive set of values and a sense of purpose in life, as well as respect for other people and the world we live in. It’s not about indoctrinating children with farfetched beliefs – the Bible teaches God's principles and encourages positivity, optimism and hope for the future. By learning these things, our children can be better equipped with the tools to live respectful, loving, honest lives – values often lacking in society today.
At the Ashby Christadelphian Church we recognise the genuine benefits of Sunday School and helping children to laugh and learn. The children have lots of fun with craft activities, bible stories and discussion; all the time, building life-skills and friendships. Sunday School today really isn’t the straight-laced institution people remember of old.
Still not sure about Sunday School? Why not come along to one of our Thursday charity coffee mornings – you can meet some of our members, see the Sunday School facilities and look at the displays. Alternatively check out our website. As a matter of course, all teachers and helpers are DBS checked.
A moral foundation is a great start for life. As it says in Ecclesiastes ch12 v1 “Remember your Creator in the days of your youth, before the days of trouble come and the years approach when you will say, "I find no pleasure in them".”
