Looking forward to something great

January is the number one month for booking summer holidays with huge surge the week following the Christmas break. It’s not hard to see why; the days are short, summer seems a long way off and many of us are drawn to thoughts of sunny days and golden beaches – very different to what we can see out of our windows!
It’s human nature that we like to have something to look forward to, something to focus on. What could be better than to dream of that beach, or the beautiful walk in the countryside on a lazy summer day?
Whilst we all look forward to our holidays, when we return the memory can very quickly fade. After a week of our normal routine it can seem a lifetime since we were away.
We read in the Bible that we have far more to look forward to than holidays; we can see the promises made by God and Jesus, promises that (unlike a holiday) will not fade, but will go on forever.
In one of the best-known verses in the Bible, we’re told…
‘For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.’ John 3 v 16.
If we believe in God and let him into our lives, then we are promised that we have something amazing to look forward to – something that won’t fade away – eternal life in God’s kingdom.
The Bible tells us what we need to do to receive this promise; we need to BELIEVE.
This January, as our thoughts turn to brighter times, let’s dedicate some of that time to learning about God, to reading His word, so that we can look forward to the promise that doesn’t fade – eternal life in God’s kingdom on earth.
