Finding that spark

The days are getting longer; we don’t have to shiver when we step out of the door or make sure we’ve set the heating. We may even start to hear birds singing in the morning (and waking us up early). Everything outside is looking a little fresher, a little brighter.
Spring is the best time of the year; after the dark and cold of winter, life seems to be sprouting everywhere, flowers starting to bloom, leaves growing and the sun actually shining again!
It’s the feeling of re-birth and awakening as the natural world comes out of its winter hibernation.
Our lives can sometimes feel like that too – like we’ve been hibernating, just waiting for the spring to come, waiting to spring into life. We often need a spark to energise us: maybe it’s a chat with a good friend, an inspiring story in the news, a holiday, even a good night’s sleep!
We find that spark in the Bible too; indescribable energy, truth and genuine hope.
In Paul’s letter to the Colossians he tells us the benefits of reading God’s word and following his guidance. “Being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience.” Colossians ch1 v11.
The Bible gives us guidance on how we should live our lives by following Jesus’ example and God’s instruction. The outcome of following what the Bible says is clear; it’s that spark – the strength we all need to endure what life throws at us. And not just endure... thrive!
So, as we embrace Spring let’s not just enjoy the natural world around us, let’s also put a spring into our step and, through reading the Bible, get that spark back in our lives too.
